Troubleshooting the De Jong Duke Virtu and Nio
Fix common power, screen, and error issues with your Virtu or Nio office coffee machine.
Is your De Jong Duke office coffee machine unresponsive, frozen, or showing error messages? This guide covers simple steps to get your machine back in action, so you’re never too far from your next cup.
Common Issues Covered
- Power won’t turn on

Power Issue: Machine Not Turning On
If your machine won’t power up:
- Check the outlet – Make sure the machine is plugged into a working outlet.
- Check the power switch – Locate the power button on the back of the machine. It should be illuminated. Flip it on if it isn’t.
- Machine powers off mid-drink? – This may require service. Contact Crafty to schedule a visit.
Error Message on Screen
If you're seeing any of the following errors:
- Cleaning Error
- Drip Tray Full
- Empty Waste Bucket
- Enough Water?
- Filling Boiler
- Brewer Not in Home Position
Follow these steps:
For “Cleaning Error”:
- Open the machine door to access the Service Menu.
- Tap Login (top right) and enter code: 4444.
- Scroll to Error Settings > Reset Cleaning Error.
- Exit the menu and close the door. The message should disappear.
For “Drip Tray Full” or “Empty Waste Bucket”:
- First, physically empty the drip tray and waste bucket.
- If the error persists, go to the Service Menu and:
- Tap Reset Waste Basket for the waste bucket error.
- Disable the “Drip Tray Full” error under Error Settings.
- Tap Reset Waste Basket for the waste bucket error.
If the drip tray error keeps returning, it may be a sensor issue. Contact Crafty for help.
Water Issues
Seeing “Enough Water?” or “Filling Boiler”?
This often appears after a rinse or deep clean and should resolve within 15–20 minutes. If not:
- There may be a water pressure issue.
- Reach out to Crafty for support.
Upper Piston / “Brewer Not in Home Position” Error
This typically occurs if the upper piston wasn’t properly reassembled after cleaning.
Check the following:
- Brewer is correctly installed.
- Upper piston is seated and locked into place.
- Micro leveler (metal tab) is not bent.
- Motor is operational and not blocked.
If all looks good and the error persists, contact Crafty for assistance.
Frozen Screen
If the touch screen is unresponsive:
- Power off the machine using the switch on the back.
- Wait a few seconds and power it back on.
- Close the door once rebooted.
If the issue continues, contact Crafty to schedule a service visit.
